If you have noticed closely, you’ll be able to notice several compartments in the fridge. Though we don’t usually take note of the fact that each compartment has different usage requirements. But did you know that if you carefully follow the guidelines while storing your different food, it will not only increase the shelf life of the food and maintain the cooling for a longer period of time but will also put less pressure on the compressor?
Here are a few perfect ways to store your food to improve the refrigerator’s efficiency:
1. Milk
Almost every Indian household use milk for various purposes on a daily basis and store it in the main compartment (the middle compartment of the fridge). For the milk to stay fresh (even beyond its shell life), it requires a temperature below 4 degrees Celsius. However, if you use bottled or tetra-packed milk, or store it in a bottle, you have no other option but to place it on the door shelf. If you can, try storing your milk in an open container, and store it in the main compartment of the fridge. Also, read – 7 tips for buying a new refrigerator in India 2022
2. Bread
Though packet bread comes with an expiry date written over it, however, if kept under the right temperature, you can use it beyond its shelf life. For that, store your bread in the freezer instead of storing it in the main compartment or anywhere else.
Bread’s moisture evaporates when it is stored in the fridge. However, the same process slows down when it is kept in the freezer. Also read – Best French Door Refrigerators Under 15000 of 2022
3. Tomatoes
Most of us store tomatoes in the fridge, thinking that the coolness will keep them fresh and juicy for a longer period of time. But what if we tell you that you are doing it all wrong. Instead of storing the tomatoes in the fridge, you should keep them on the kitchen slab in a bowl.
However, if the room temperature is high which usually is during summers, instead of storing them in the refrigerator’s main compartment, put them in the vegetable compartment or basket or on the door shelf. The temperature is warmer in these areas. Also read – Best Refrigerators in Delhi-NCR 2022: Single and Multi-Door Fridge
4. Eggs
You’ll be surprised to know that storing eggs in the tray provided in the refrigerator can change their taste. Eggshells absorb the smell of other foods in the fridge. So, it suggested that instead of storing them in the fridge, store them in the original tray which keeps them warm enough to keep them fresh and edible.
5. Meat and Frozen Food
Even if you bring freshly cut meat, it can go stale if not kept under proper temperature. Keeping the meat in a chiller or freezer can increase its shelf life, allowing you to use the same meat again after a gap of a few years.
